If you are completely new to tabletop gaming or just thinking about starting, BATG is the perfect place to begin. We are a friendly gaming club in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, welcoming beginners, returning players and curious first timers who want to explore the hobby in a relaxed and social setting.
What is the experience like for a first time visitor?
Walking into BATG feels like entering a space where everyone is happy to help you get started. You will not be left on your own or expected to know the rules. Most of our members are patient, passionate hobbyists who enjoy teaching and introducing people to different games at a friendly pace. You can watch first, or jump straight in with guidance.
A safe and welcoming space for newcomers
You do not need to own any miniatures, terrain or even a rulebook to attend your first session. We regularly run intro games where everything is provided. You can arrive with zero knowledge and still have a great time. Many of our current members began exactly that way.

BATG is a dedicated tabletop gaming club based at Unit 17, Chesham House in Barnsley. We play a huge range of miniature wargames, board games and roleplaying systems across six large purpose built gaming tables. New players and returning hobbyists are treated with the same warmth as long time members.
What kinds of games can beginners expect?
Whether you are interested in fast and friendly skirmish games, narrative adventures like Dungeons and Dragons or larger tabletop battles such as Warhammer 40k, we have members who will happily introduce you. You can try different systems, discover what you enjoy and learn at your own pace.
More than just learning rules
BATG is a social community. Many sessions end with a relaxed visit to the pub, and friendships form naturally over time. You will not just learn how to play tabletop games, you will meet people who enjoy the same hobby and make the experience memorable.
