Almost a Year of Warhammer 40000: Excitement for the New Season and Mission Pack

Can you believe it’s almost been a year since the release of Warhammer 40,000’s 10th edition? As we gear up for another exciting season, there’s a lot to look forward to with the upcoming Mission Pack from Games Workshop. We’re particularly thrilled about the return of Actions and the increased significance of Battleline units. These changes promise to add even more depth and strategy to our games.

New Chapter Approved Pariah Nexus Cards

Since the introduction of the 10th edition, the Leviathan Mission Deck has made matched play missions both varied and exciting. Whether we’re playing casually with friends or at competitive tournaments, it’s been a fantastic addition to our gaming experience. Now, the new Chapter Approved: Pariah Nexus Mission Deck is set to take centre stage, with the Necrons’ sinister schemes shaping the missions for the next year.

This new mission deck continues to offer randomised mission parameters, using refined Deployment cards, fresh Mission Rule cards, and updated or brand-new Primary and Secondary Mission cards. These changes create exciting, balanced challenges for both newcomers and seasoned veterans. One significant update is the introduction of Secret Missions, replacing the previous Gambits. These missions give players who’ve fallen behind on the Primary Mission a chance to change tactics and achieve victory through other means.

We’re excited to see Battleline units getting more spotlight with the new Mission Rules. Half of these rules benefit our core rank-and-file warriors, making them more than just objective sitters. The ability to perform Actions like Raising Banners or taking advantage of Rapid Escalation for crucial extra Victory Points means that a solid Battleline roster is now more valuable than ever.

The new Primary Missions are designed to test our armies in engaging ways. Missions like Terraform push more defensive forces out of their comfort zones by awarding Victory Points to whoever performs a special Action on each objective first. This creates a dynamic where we have to decide whether to race for points or control the battlefield more strategically.

Secondary Missions have also been updated to better communicate when and how points are scored. Tasks like booby-trapping terrain, securing board edges, and destroying select enemy units marked by our opponents add layers of strategy and fun. These changes make each game feel fresh and challenging, with new opportunities for tactical manoeuvres.

Secret Missions, unlike the Gambits they replace, are kept hidden from our opponents until the end of the game. With four Secret Missions to choose from, it will be crucial to deduce our opponents' objectives and thwart their plans. At the end of the third Battle Round, we can choose to undertake a Secret Mission if our Victory Points from the Primary Mission are less than or equal to our opponent’s. Completing these missions can earn us a substantial 20 Victory Points, adding an exciting risk-reward element to our games.

Each Secret Mission is distinct, requiring us to adapt and outmanoeuvre our opponents. For example, Command Insertion rewards a sudden dash to seize the enemy deployment zone with our WARLORD, while War of Attrition focuses on eliminating or pushing back enemy Battleline units.

The Chapter Approved: Pariah Nexus Mission Deck, which includes 69 cards for both players, along with six pop-out objective tokens, is due to land in just a few months. We’ll keep you updated on its pre-order availability through Warhammer Community.

We can’t wait to dive into the new season and explore all the strategic possibilities these updates bring. It’s going to be a thrilling year for Warhammer 40,000, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the next BATG meetup, ready to put these new missions and rules to the test!

Stay tuned and happy gaming!
