On Saturday, August 17th, we were thrilled to host our first open day at the new premises of Barnsley Association of Tabletop Gamers. It was a fantastic day filled with excitement, camaraderie, and a true showcase of what our club has to offer. With over fifty years of history in Barnsley, this open day marked a new chapter for us as we welcomed both new faces and long-time friends into our dedicated gaming space.
Despite the typical moving-in chaos of unpacked boxes and ongoing setup, our new venue quickly came alive with activity. The event was packed with a variety of gaming experiences that catered to all interests, from historical miniatures to sci-fi battles and classic board games.
A Day Full of Gaming Highlights
The day featured several participation games that truly captured the imagination of our visitors. One of the standout moments was the Deadman's Hand participation game, where players stepped into the boots of Old West outlaws and lawmen. The game was a hit, with club member Rich even handing out Sheriff's badges to those who joined in, adding a fun and memorable touch to the experience.
Another highlight was the Battle of Little Bighorn, a large-scale historical game played on our massive 12-foot by 6-foot gaming table. This epic showdown used a modified version of the Men Who Would Be Kings ruleset, creating an immersive and detailed experience that drew plenty of attention. The modified ruleset added an extra layer of depth and realism, making the battle both visually stunning and strategically engaging.
Our showcase games also made a big impression, with displays of Adeptus Titanicus, Chain of Command, and Kings of War. These games demonstrated the variety and depth of gaming that our club offers, from the towering war machines of Adeptus Titanicus to the strategic depth of Chain of Command and the epic fantasy battles of Kings of War.
